The 5 dangers lurking in your old house
In any old house, five things could cause a catastrophe for you and your family.  And knowing how to handle these hazards properly is the key to maintaining safety. Let’s talk about these five things and how best to avoid them. So read and take notes to make sure you are protected.

  1. lead paint hazard

Lead excretion is especially dangerous for children. But if your home was built 3 decades ago, there is a good chance your home used lead paint. In fact, the earlier the structure was built, the more likely it was to contain lead.

The most common places where you will find lead-based paints are the mouldings and trims (windows, doors, baseboards, etc.).  Lead poisoning usually occurs when grinding and cleaning old paint, which releases some particles.  These particles can be easily inhaled. For your own safety, if you are making repairs, you will need to call an EPA certified contractor, who is trained for repair, maintenance and painting.

  1. Lead pipe risk

If your home still has your original plumbing, it would be wise to leave it to a licensed plumber to check the general condition of your plumbing to find out what materials.

Though lead traces from another area where lead is used in other pipes are usually not a threat, you should get your peace of mind by testing your water with the help of home test kits.

  1. Asbestos Hazard

When it was first launched, asbestos was seen as a wonder product. It is made of natural minerals and is completely fire resistant, extremely durable, excellent insulation and is very light. Unfortunately, it can also be fatal if inhaled. Prolonged exposure often leads to a deadly lung cancer called mesothelioma, among other problems.

Asbestos is used for all types of building materials such as pipe insulation, tile, roofing materials, lining, insulation, and many others. Asbestos products are not officially banned in Australia until 2003, but it has been left long ago after people discovered the potential health problems associated with the exposure.

Asbestos is usually safe if not broken. If you have it at home, you can leave it alone if it is in good condition. However, the collapse and used asbestos products represent a real danger that must be immediately fixed by an asbestos removal contractor who is accredited and trained to manage asbestos.  The reason is simply that an asbestos removal process requires a highly safe protocol to ensure that the deadly fibres are not released into the air.

Therefore, this material should not be handled by persons other than professionals.  Get more information at your local council about a secure asbestos removal procedure and how to get help from a licensed asbestos removal contractor

  1. Old wiring danger

An old wiring is not a threat if it is not destroyed or it’s using knob and tube. Knob and tube were one of the first standardized designs for wiring. There would be nothing threatening if it’s undamaged, except that as old (rubber) insulators may quickly break and left wide open wires, which can easily cause a fire or electric shock. If your home still has a knob and tube, it should be replaced as soon as possible by an authorized electrician.

Secondly, the decayed insulation. Cotton insulation is used in most old wired cables and it can last for many decades, but over time, it will begin to degrade. If you have a wiring outlet or any other connection spot where the insulation is broken or lost, you are risking yourself. In addition, most older homes do not have a ground cable, which goes to outlets and accessories. While this presents no real danger, it provides a degree of stability and protection compared to this obsolete method. Ask a licensed electrician to inspect your home if you are in doubt.

  1. Balloon frame

Most people do not even know what a balloon frame, not to mention the dangers they may pose. By itself, the container frame is not dangerous. The balloon was one of the types of home construction before most builders have moved to today’s standard platform. The problem with housing is that when a fire is set from the basement, it will go through the attic and burn the whole house down.

The balloon house with the frame can be resolved with fire-locking coils pins. This is not the most urgent issue a landlord can face, but it is a hidden danger, which most people do not know. Another solution is to re-work the stud bays with fire resistant insulation. If you have a way to access the stud bay to fix the balloon frame, you must take this chance to add insulation and fire blocking to keep your home safe.

Staying in an old house is as well as everything else. You must have good management.Hopefully, you are better prepared now and more aware of your home.

You have many comforting options to choose from whether you are spending the night at friends’ and relatives, going camping, or having guests sleeping over. Bookcases with  Modern Slick LookingOne more time, I’m having the problem of book cases. What Should I do? Should I go ahead and purchase or should I build or should I render all the thousands of books that I have in boxes? You know why I’m worried? I’m moving once more. This is what happens each time I move. I always need a brand new place of abode that would provide sanity and where I can stay forever. I have to move every single time because of a crazy landlord or a roommate who is drunk, passive, aggressive, and crazy or possibly a thief. I truly hate going through the trying packing procedure. My books today remain in boxes in this period where I am not certain whether your home is permanent or at least long lasting. I just put those I need on bookcases that are even makeshift boards and bricks. Some cases they are milk crates or cardboard boxes.

You can join me as I breathe a sigh of relief, finally. Now, I am about to buy my very own property. After living away from Mommy and Daddy for twenty five years and moving from one house to another thirty-something days, I am going to be getting my very own residence. I’m now happy for my bad books as now they can get a breather too. Happily, they have escaped the mold, bookworms, etc. What I will do now is to put them in book cases. Should I place them on built-ins? I have lots of options, but I’m also faced with another issue of what kind of book cases style will match with it. There are endless options, really, particularly when one considers the inside decorating styles like the modern, Mediterranean, French, etc. There’s also the baroque and Goth and conventional and mission and eclectic, etc.

I apparently prefer the hardy and understated of this Mission Style book instances. You know why? Today they take their influence from their function and their own history. For Mission Style furniture, this is utilitarian at best.

It was just after the 17th century that book instances became purposefully crafted. This was once the English readers found the need for keeping and collecting books. This led to the use of bookcases in schools and libraries, and homes of scholars and book fans, according to the compilers of this Antique Collector’s Dictionary. The studying and researching world have picked up and passed on the novel case construction civilization. By way of example, Georgian breakfront (right-wing wing) publication cases were assembled). These were followed by “upper platform glazed” bookcases. Then there were the Regency period dwarf bookcases.

Part of the functional Mission Style collections of furniture. Most houses, all thanks to the link and influence of the Arts and Crafts Movement that’s spreading. This motion was naturally, engineered in the Lloyd Wright. Today, the publication cases that are the best choices are those that have simple lines and are assembled.

How to Understand Chronic Leukemia

There are two types of leukemia: acute leukemia and chronic leukemia based on the speed of development and the persistence of the disorder. Leukemia can either be lymphocytic or myelogenous, judging by the types of stem cells.

By the levels that stem cells are able to reach in their development (stem cells that present anomalies still manage to partially develop and either resemble immature cells or complete, normal white blood cells), acute leukemia is different from chronic leukemia.

A form of cancer that develops very rapidly is acute leukemia. Through overpopulation of the blood with immature cells that are unable to fulfill the functions of normal blood cells, it’s manifested. The marrow is unable to produce normal quantities of red blood cells, white blood cells and platelets in the case of acute leukemia. A deficiency of normal red blood cells or anemia is also developed in patients who suffer from leukemia. While the lack of platelets facilitates inflammation and bleeding, a decreased number of white blood cells reduce the body’s ability of overcoming infections.

Compare to acute leukemia, chronic leukemia tends to develop slower. The body is able to produce blood cells that are more mature than those produced in acute leukemia in the case of chronic leukemia. They can’t fulfill their roles inside the organism and tend to cluster at different levels of the body even though these cells may appear incomplete. Also, they have a longer period of life.

A type of blood cell called B lymphocyte is affected by chronic leukemia of lymphocytic form. This disease interferes in the normal activity of the spinal marrow, facilitates the access of harmful cells to body organs and weakens the immune system. First, chronic lymphocytic leukemia occurs at the levels of bone marrow but through the bloodstream, can quickly spread to different organs and tissue.

Blood test and careful body examination usually can reveal the presence of chronic lymphocytic leukemia. Some patients may experience fatigue, lack of concentration, poor balance, memory loss, deterioration of vision and hearing, vertigos, body weakness, joint and bone pains while others may have no symptoms of the disease. Chronic leukemia requires immediate specific treatment and therapy, just like in other forms of the disease. If it is discovered quickly, the chances of fully overcoming this disease are considerably enhanced.

The reason to buy a place in France_002

  1. The reason to buy a place in France

Purchasing a French home is a major financial decision, so are you seeking to make an investment, or do you plan to relocate and operate, establish a business, or even retire? Answering these questions will help identify the type of property best suited to your requirements and its perfect location.

  1. Where to Purchase Your French house

France has 21 other areas too but obviously we’re big fans of the Languedoc! France is a huge country boasting a huge variety of landscapes, several climatic zones and many micro-climates; narrowing down your search area is a key, and clarifying your standards will help. Joe Laredo’s “The Best Places to Buy a Home in France “(published by Survival Books, #11.95, www.survivalbooks.net) is a great starting point. Why not try the Languedoc for starters?

  1. The positioning of your French property

Location is all-important. You can renovate, restore, rebuild, modernize, expand and alter a home, but its location cannot be altered. Our guidance is to plump for a house in reasonable condition at a popular, available area, rather than a dream home in a remote spot. You could do some DIY to flip a small home into a fabulous French mat, but no quantity of cash will change an isolated place into anything else. Lost in France has been a hit list — but you do not want it to turn into your song.

  1. Buy your French house according to your life stage

For retirees, sunshine may be a “should”; being within walking space of a physician, a post office and a couple of stores could be very beneficial in subsequent years. Having neighbors nearby may offer a helping hand and a few additional securities for older individuals. For young families intending to relocate to France, accessibility to schools and leisure facilities will most likely be important. When buying a French house, take into account your present needs – and also how they may evolve as years go by.

  1. French land – what does it cost?

As a general rule of thumb, the closer you’re some major City or the coast, the higher costs will be. French property is at its cheapest at the countryside; town houses can cost a couple of times as much. In certain rural areas it’s possible to buy an old house in need of work for as little as $50,000, but funding at least the exact same again to make it habitable.

  1. French property price trends

Annual increases of around 20% have been observed in the most For Brits, French property still offers excellent value; prices are typically 35-60% of those in the UK, peaking where the demand for vacation homes is the most powerful, i.e. that the Atlantic and Mediterranean coasts and Alpine ski resorts. Verify the costs of property advertised online or in specialist magazines to understand how they vary from one region to another.

  1. Travelling to a French home

Before settling on your property purchase, ask yourself: How long will it take to get there, door to door? Are there any direct travel choices? Is travelling by car an opportunity? There is arguably little point buying a dream house in a highly inaccessible spot; more time travelling way less time relaxing, and you might have problems when it comes to selling.

  1. House hunting in France: try before you buy

Unless you know exactly what sort of French home you want, And precisely where it should be, it may be wise to rent a property. If time allows, give yourself the chance to experience an area, its inhabitants, weather, amenities, services and cost of living, throughout the year — or out of the high season. Spending a week’s summer holiday in a fairly French cottage is 1 thing; residing in a damp, drafty old house in the peak of winter is another.

  1. French property types

France offers a wealth of property types, from older, period houses with appeal to more recent structures with all mod cons. A third solution is a brand-new, off-plan purchase (in other words, reserve a house within a growth and then wait for it to be built; conclusion time is typically 12-18 months). If you prefer your French home to be made-to-measure, a maison individuelle can be constructed to your specific design.

  1. Purchasing a classic French home

For a French home with character, ripe for renovation, with property and possibly outbuildings, you’ll inevitably be looking at an older (pre-1945) property. Remember that renovation or modernization prices are nearly always higher than estimated, and the cost of many renovated properties does not reflect the time and money invested. Older buildings necessarily cost more to maintain. Still, what price the charm of vieilles pierres (older stones) and First capabilities?
